Starting a new venture is a journey filled with growth, learning, and discovery. In 2022, I embarked on an exciting partnership to start a new marketing agency. Having to adapt to continues learning, armed with academic knowledge and a deep passion for creativity, I stepped into the business world with optimism. By 2024, I had founded my own creative agency, drawing on my experience and unwavering commitment to ethical business practices.
Every challenge along the way has been an opportunity to grow. My journey has taught me valuable lessons, from refining my communication skills to understanding the importance of mental well-being within your team, providing downtime and allowing them to still enjoy the small pleasures in life. Fostering healthy connections and happy environments. Balancing creativity with business acumen, I’ve learned to lead with empathy and integrity, always keeping my faith at the forefront.
Effective communication is the cornerstone of success in any creative field. It’s not just about conveying your ideas but doing so in a way that resonates with others and fosters collaboration. As a designer, you often have to explain complex concepts to clients or colleagues who might not have the same technical background. The key is to communicate clearly, ensuring everyone around the table is aligned and on the same page.
This skill becomes even more critical in a world where AI tools can replicate basic design and development tasks. What sets you apart is your ability to articulate your process, justify design decisions, and guide your team or clients through the creative journey without coming across as arrogant or dismissive. In short, mastering communication is not just a soft skill—it’s an essential one that enhances your ability to lead, innovate, and succeed in the ever-evolving marketing industry.

Inspired by the wisdom of Eckhart Tolle and Brené Brown, I’ve learned to focus on the present moment and acceptance, cultivating a positive mindset that embraces life’s challenges with grace and to always “dare greatly”.
In the fast-paced world of business and creative solutions, it’s easy to get caught up in the grind and ignore the signs that you need to step back. Balancing deadlines, client expectations, and personal responsibilities can create a pressure cooker environment where burnout is just around the corner. Taking a break isn’t just about pausing work—it’s about recognizing when your mental and physical health need attention.
Whether it’s dealing with difficult clients, managing tight deadlines, or juggling multiple projects at once, the stress can build up quickly. Ignoring these stressors can lead to burnout, reduced creativity, and even physical health issues. The key is to be mindful of your limits and to listen to your body and mind when they signal the need for a break. Taking time to recharge not only improves your well-being, your teams working environment but also enhances your productivity and creativity when you return to work. In today’s demanding world, knowing when to take a break is as crucial as any technical skill — it’s an essential practice for maintaining long-term success and happiness in both your career, your team (work environment) and personal life.
As a business owner, understanding the balance between meeting client expectations and maintaining professional integrity is crucial. It’s about delivering value while preserving the quality of relationships taking into account that we are all human.
Finding the right moments to share and celebrate creative achievements is essential for growth and recognition. In our industry, we often undertake projects that we aren’t allowed to showcase, which can make it challenging to navigate. That’s why we find creative ways to tell our story—opening the door for the narratives of Dave, Susan, Franki, Roger, and Ted. These personas become the voices through which I share my journey, celebrating the work in a unique, funny with a touch of controversy 😉 and compelling way. (No characters were harmed in the creation of the storyline)
As a designer, your work is your livelihood—each file represents hours of creativity, expertise, and dedication. When clients request open files, it’s essential to strike a balance between professional integrity and client satisfaction. Open files are not just deliverables; they are the building blocks of your creative process. Sharing them can sometimes lead to misuse or devaluation of your work. To protect your intellectual property, establish clear terms in your contracts regarding file ownership and usage rights. Educate clients on the value of your work and offer alternatives, such as providing final assets (design tool kits) in formats that meet their marketing needs without compromising your creative control. This approach ensures that both parties maintain a respectful and beneficial relationship while safeguarding your professional interests.
Mental health is paramount, especially in creative industries where the pressure to innovate and produce can be intense. As a designer, it’s crucial to cultivate environments that encourage collaboration, positive interactions, and teamwork. Creative work thrives in spaces where individuals feel safe to express ideas without judgment. To foster such an environment, prioritize open communication, mutual respect, and shared goals. Additionally, recognize the importance of taking breaks and setting boundaries to prevent burnout. Collaborating with others should feel energizing, not draining. By creating a supportive workspace, you ensure that creativity flows freely, leading to more innovative solutions and a healthier, more sustainable work-life balance.
In the fast-paced world of design, staying relevant requires a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation. The tools, trends, and technologies in the design industry are constantly evolving, and so must your skills. Embrace a mindset of lifelong learning, whether through formal education, online courses, or simply experimenting with new techniques. Regularly update your portfolio to reflect the latest in design trends and innovations, showcasing your ability to adapt and grow. Additionally, stay open to feedback and be willing to iterate on your ideas. This flexibility not only enhances your creative output but also positions you as a leader in your field who is always ahead of the curve, ready to tackle any challenge with fresh, innovative solutions.
In the end, it’s all about turning challenges into opportunities for growth, and I’m committed to creating spaces where creativity and positivity thrive.
